We’re thrilled to be bringing Laser Background to Norfolk while on tour from Philadelphia with a local/regional lineup that’s good as gold. Joining them will be Virginia Beach’s The Seeers (members of The Super Vacations / MAS Y MAS / You’re Jovian) returning to the stage after a nice hiatus along with The Wimps from Richmond, VA and You’re Jovian from Norfolk/VB. It’s all going down at Commune for what will be a very memorable pre-Labor Day party for the ages…

Laser Background (Philadelphia, PA)
“from an early age he’s gleaned inspiration from composer Koji Kondo, who as the architect of the original Super Mario Bros. is one of the most influential composers in contemporary culture. “Those songs you can hear again and again on a loop,” Molholt explained. The Philadelphia multi-instrumentalist applies the lessons of repetition to indie pop, and his charmingly lo-fi Laser Background songs bridge the gap between the blocky eight-bit world he maneuvered as a child and the guitar-rock realities of his present.” https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/philadelphias-laser-background-bridge-the-universes-of-video-games-and-indie-pop/Content?oid=26344160

The Seeers (Virginia Beach, VA *WINDIAN RECORDS* * Funny / Not Funny Records*)
“Fuzzy, dreamy and some killer guitar riffs go to show you what that psych/garage sound brings out the best of and The Seeers are among the best doing it today. Well distinguished lines between songs is typically the problem I have with the influx of psych/garage bands out there currently but The Seeers have no problem with that as each song is capable enough to stand on its own while they are still all brought back together by one common factor of rock.” http://raisedbygypsies.blogspot.com/2015/07/cassette-review-seeers-early-songs.html

The Wimps (Richmond, VA)
‘“That’s what we’re all really interested it,” [Brent McCormick] said. “Just keeping it really simple, good rock and roll, pop stuff. As far as the old school stuff goes, I think that’s where our heads are at generally, all of that music from the 60s. Some grittier, garage-60s stuff.” The group took inspiration from The Beatles’ The Magical Mystery Tour, The Velvet Underground and The Stooges for this album which you can definitely hear a little bit of all of them immersed throughout the tracks. https://rvamag.com/music/rvas-the-wimps-drop-new-self-titled-60s-pop-album/

You’re Jovian (Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA *Funny / Not Funny Records*)
‘The combo centers around mastermind Elliot Malvas, a sometimes Swirlies-sideman with an ear for a hook and a devotion to blissed-out noise. He wields both to establish an appealing tension in You’re Jovian’s music, and particularly here on “Downstream.” Malvas makes a conscious effort to have a “push and pull” between melody and dissonance. “Dissonance is just always fun,” he says, “but [it] never quite translates well on record. Live it’s fun being loud and noisy.”’ http://www.vanyaland.com/2017/03/20/new-sounds-gaze-combo-youre-jovian-return-downstream/
